The Champagne bottle design is born as much out of style as it is
necessity. The thick glass with its gently sloping shoulders and a deep
punt (the indentation on the underside) are necessary as the pressure
inside the bottle is 80-90psi (3 x the pressure inside an average car
tyre).
Jeroboam (actually Jeroboam II), was the King of Israel during the year
of Rome's founding (753 BC)

A son of Solomon, Rehoboam (meaning "the clan is enlarged"
according to Willard Espy) became king of Judah in 933 BC.

Methuselah was an antediluvian patriarch described in the Old Testament
as having lived 969 years and whose name is synonymous with great age. He
may well have evolved from a character of earlier Sumerian legend who
lived for 65,000 years.

Continuing the tradition, Bollinger Champagne is featured in the 1995
Bond saga, GoldenEye. This film is the 18th film to be
based on Fleming's spy novels and the seventh in which Bollinger
Champagne has been featured. Following a furious car chase about 30
minutes into the film, Bond, played by actor Pierce Brosnan, is asked
what he does for relaxation by a woman psychiatrist sent by his boss to
evaluate him. In response, Bond presses a
button on his Aston Martin's dashboard to
reveal a secret refrigerated compartment cradling a frosty bottle of
Bollinger Grande Annee 1988 and two glasses. Smiling impishly, he kisses
her and pours her a class.
In discussing the film, Guy Bizot, export director of Bollinger
Champagne and great-nephew of famed Champagne widow Lily Bollinger, said,
"Great taste is always in great taste. Many people think of
Bollinger as Champagne's most traditional house. While it's true we
emulate the old-fashioned practices that enable us to create great
hand-crafted wines, we are also very much in the 20th century. What
could be more stylishly up-to-date than James Bond?"

Efter skörden i september, oktober pressas saften försiktigt ur
druvorna så de inte tar färg av skalen.
Tillsatt jäst gör att ett alkoholhaltigt, osötat vin bildas i stora
tunnor av stål.
Särskilt utbildade provsmakare kallas in för att tillsammans med källarmästaren
avgöra vilken vinblandning champagnen ska bestå av och om årets skörd
håller för att göra en vintage (årgångschampagne).
Vinet tappas på flaskor och socker och jäst tillsätts för en andra jäsning.
Det bubblande vinet lagras liggande i vinkällare. Flaskorna måste försiktigt
skruvas ett kvarts varv med jämna mellanrum så att sedimentet som jästen
bildar gradvis sjunker ner i flaskhalsen. Enligt fransk lag måste
champagnen lagras i minst 15 månader. För vintage krävs minst 3 år.
Sedan fryses flaskhalsen ner så att enbart sedimentet poppar ut när
man öppnar flaskan.
En liten mängd sötad sprit, liqueur de dosage, tillsätts som avgör
hur söt champagnen kommer att bli.
Flaskan korkas och läggs tillbaka i vinkällaren för att utveckla sin
arom i några månader.
Slutligen får flaskan etikett och packas ner i kartonger.
Champagnen blir godare av att lagras, men det är ingen idé att göra
själv hemma eftersom processen avstannar i samma ögonblick sedimentet
tas bort.
Drycken serveras bäst i samma temperatur som nere i vinkällaren, med
andra ord runt 10 grader.
Bubbelord
Champagne: Mousserande vin från
distriktet Champagne i nordöstra Frankrike.
Brut: 90 procent av all champagne är av
typen brut vilket innebär att den är torr, inte så söt.
Demi-sec: En sötare variant som passar bra
till desserter.

House style; the expression of the terroir and the aromatic richness are

As well as a unique Bollinger vintage, the SPECTRE
Limited Edition will be encased in a sleek Carré Basset designed black cool-box
with embossed silver Bollinger and 007 branding. The exterior is designed to
mimic the texture of the gun grip on 007’s Walther PPK, whilst the insulated
interior will keep the bottle chilled for up to two hours once removed from the
fridge, making it the perfect portable Champagne for all secret missions!
The release of the SPECTRE Limited Edition marks the
continuation of a long lasting partnership between EON Productions, the
producers of the Bond franchise, and the House of Bollinger. Bollinger has
featured in 13 Bond films to date and has been the exclusive Champagne partner
since MOONRAKER in 1979.
The Champagne Bollinger partnership with Bond is,
rather uniquely, based on a gentlemen’s agreement from the early 1970s. At the
time, Champagne Bollinger was being run by Madame Bollinger’s nephews Claude
d’Hautefeuille and Christian Bizot. They sought to continue their late
aunt’s good work in building the brand of Bollinger, whilst remaining true to
its heritage and tradition. When film producer Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli was
seeking a Champagne House to match James Bond’s on-screen impeccable taste and
panache, he chose Bollinger, but the House was still traditionally quite
reserved at heart. Adamant that Bollinger was right for his suave secret agent,
Cubby took his time and made friends with Christian Bizot, bonding over their
shared love of wine.
Since that encounter, Bollinger has been featured in
13 Bond films in an association that has lasted for 42 years. James Bond’s
first encounter with Bollinger, however, was actually a literary one; Tiffany
Case sends Bond a bottle to his cabin on the Queen Elizabeth in the novel of
Diamonds Are Forever. The first appearance in a film was when then Bond Roger
Moore ordered Bollinger from room service in Live and Let Die. From that moment
on, Bollinger has been Bond’s Champagne of Choice in every big screen outing.

To the eye: Bollinger
SPECTRE LIMITED EDITION has a deep golden colour,
which demonstrates the wine's maturity as well as
Bollinger's winemaking methods.
To the nose, the
vintage boasts a refined complexity, the expression
of the Grand Crus' Terroirs. White flowers, citrus
fruit, delicately stewed pear with hints of vanilla,
toasted aromas, hazlenut and breadcrumbs.
To the palate: the
wine shows maturity yet remains brisk and lively. We
move through candied fruit, mirabelle plum, quince
paste and honey with a finsh that reminds us of
bitter orange.

releases James Bond crystal set Champagne Bollinger has released a limited
edition crystal wine cooler, complete with a magnum of R.D Bollinger 1988, to
mark the release of new James Bond film Spectre
Only 307 of the crystal sets have been produced, crafted by Saint Louis
crystal works in Lorraine, to showcase the producer’s R.D 1988 Bollinger –
part of the producer’s late-release and recently disgorged prestige cuvée
vintage Champagne range.
Bollinger’s limited edition 2009 Spectre cuvée
Designed by Eric Berthés of Saint Louis, which was founded in 1586 and is
now part of the Hermés Group, the Bollinger Spectre Crystal Set features a
Bollinger 007 signature marked with the sign of the octopus, the Spectre.
“For this exceptional creation, Champagne Bollinger has chosen a partner
that shares the same values of French excellence and exacting standards of
quality, the Saint-Louis Crystalworks”, said Jérôme Philipon, president
of Champagne Bollinger.
The Bollinger Spectre Crystal set, which comes with a magnum of Bollinger
1988 R.D, is available from a number of select wine merchants and in
Saint-Louis stores in Paris, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Taipei, with an
RRP of €5,007 (£3,650).
Bollinger has also released a limited edition bottle of its 2009 cuvée,
“inspired by the style and sophistication of the world of Bond” to mark
its association with the franchise.
The bottle comes encased in a chill box, designed by Carré Basset, which
keeps the bottle cold for two hours. The limited edition bottle carries an RRP
of €160.
