James Bond lives where? The name’s Bond. Gunnar Bond. Licensed to… operate a Bond museum above a car-parts shop in Nybro. he glamorous destination is a staple of the James Bond movie. But my quest for 007 has led me to the small Swedish city of Nybro, population 13,000, and to an auto shop on an industrial estate. When I arrive, snowflakes still melting on my clothes, I enter to find the place deserted and silent. I decide to take a look around. On the left-hand side of the garage space are shelves stacked with regular car accessories: brake disks, replacement headlamps, plastic bottles of motor oil and the like. Over on the other side of the room, however, things get considerably more interesting – there are martini glasses, packs of playing cards, bottles of aftershave, books, posters and other items of merchandise, every little bit of it etched, emblazoned, stamped or printed with a 007™ logo. Engrossed in all the Bond paraphenalia, I’m startled when a figure appears at the back of the workshop, scaring the living daylights out of me. It’s Bond. The opening title sequence to The Living Daylights
(1987) was filmed on Gibraltar. It was the fifteenth entry
in the James Bond film series and the first to star Timothy Dalton as 007 James
Bond. The film’s title was taken from Ian Fleming’s short story, “The
Living Daylights“. It was the last film to use the title of an Ian
Fleming story until the 2006 installment Casino Royale.
The opening NATO exercise teaser, infiltrated by the Russians, was filmed mostly on the Upper Rock. Situated on the southern tip of Spain, Gibraltar has been British territory (and a British naval base) since 1713. Less than 15 miles from the coast of Morocco, the rocky outcrop was known as one of the two ‘Pillars of Hercules’ – the headlands either side of the Strait of Gibraltar, the narrow neck separating Europe from Africa, which provides the only link between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The rock is inhabited by Barbary apes (which are actually monkeys) – the only monkeys native to Europe. The inevitable legend has it that once the ‘apes’ leave, the British will leave. Filming on the Upper Rock Principal photography commenced at Gibraltar on 17th September 1986. Aerial stuntmen B.J. Worth and Jake Lombard performed to the pre-credits parachute jump. Both the terrain and wind were unfavourable. Consideration was given to the stunt being done using cranes but aerial stunts arranger B.J. Worth stuck to skydiving and completed the scenes in a day. The aircraft used for the jump was a C-130 Hercules, which in the film had M’s office installed in the aircraft cabin. The initial point of view for the scene shows M in what appears to be his usual London office, but the camera then zooms out to reveal that it is, in fact, inside an aircraft. Although marked as a Royal Air Force aircraft, the one in shot belonged to the Spanish Air Force and was used again later in the film for the Afghanistan sequences this time in “Russian” markings. Ian Fleming spent World War II in naval intelligence – and biographers have charted how his experiences inspired him to create many of 007′s finest adventures |

These tunnels were excavated during 1939-1944 by the Royal Engineers and a contingent of Canadian Engineers, and are an extension to The Great Siege Tunnels excavated during The Great Siege of 1779-83. The Rock is in fact honeycombed with a 32 mile-long network of tunnels.
Licensed tour guides will take you on a tour lasting approximately 30 - 40 minutes. Tour includes static exhibitions and photographic displays. Tours are running Monday to Saturday from 10:00 hours – 16:00 hours. Price for tour is £8.00. In order to access this attraction you will need to enter the Upper Rock Nature Reserve. ;The entrance fee for the Upper Rock attractions is £10 for adults and children aged 5-12 years is £5. The Cable CarThe Cable Car is one of the ways to the "Top of the Rock" and
a must-see attraction for all visitors to Gibraltar. The journey takes
passengers 412m above sea level in approximately 6 minutes offering
spectacular views all the way. From the Top Station one has uninterrupted
views southwards across the Strait of Gibraltar to Africa; westwards, of
the City of Gibraltar and across the Bay to Algeciras; a birds eye view of
Gibraltar airport and Spain to the north; and the blue expanse of the
Mediterranean and the beaches and cities of the Costa del Sol to the east.
Visitors can also pick up a bite to eat at the Top of the Rock snack bar
and watch the apes get up to their tricks from the comfort of the
air-conditioned inside viewing area.
The Cable Car runs continuously throughout the day, approximately every 10 minutes No reservation is required. The Cable Car is the quickest and most memorable way to the Top of the Rock. 412m in just 6 mins! From there you will enjoy not only the company of the famous Barbary Apes but also the spectacular views. Within the top station complex you will find the Top of the Rock Café where you find snacks and drinks. Weddings in Gibraltar In 1969 the biggest media sensation was the marriage of John Lennon to Yoko Ono and soon after followed many celebrities, including James Bond, Sean Connery (who married on the Rock twice) and Roger Moore who chose Gibraltar for his honeymoon. Timothy Dalton continued the Bond tradition and filmed a sequence on the Rock for The Living Daylights'. |
The Rock Hotel has hosted numerous internationally renowned celebrities and a number of celebrity weddings. Bernard Montgomery and Dwight D. Eisenhower stayed at the hotel while they were planning the invasion of North Africa, and Winston Churchill and Errol Flynn also stayed here. In April 1962, Sarah,
the 47-year-old actress daughter of Churchill, was married to Thomas
Touchet-Jesson, 23rd Baron Audley, in a civil ceremony at the Rock
Hotel. Also in 1962, Sean

There is a busy motorway running across the runway allowing cars to travel
between Spanish city La Linea de la Concepcion and the British part Gibraltar.
